Musician Scott Weiland most famously from the 1990s defunct alternative rock band Stone Temple Pilots and then Velvet Revolver has died at the age of 48.
The following message was posted on Weiland’s Facebook page:
“Scott Weiland, best known as the lead singer for Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, passed away in his sleep while on a tour stop in Bloomington, Minnesota, with his band The Wildabouts. At this time we ask that the privacy of Scott’s family be respected.”
Weiland has had a long and public battle with drug addiction over the years. After the release of his band’s third album in the mid-90s, a statement was issued saying Weiland “has become unable to rehearse or appear for these shows due to his dependency on drugs. He is currently under a doctor’s care in a medical facility.”

Over the years, Weiland had many run-ins with the law including a conviction for buying crack cocaine in 1995, and DUIs in 2003, and 2007.
