The fiance of Downton Abbey actress Michelle Dockery has died of a rare form of cancer aged just 34.
PR executive John Dineen, from Ireland, died at a hospice in Cork on Sunday, two days before the actress’s birthday.
A spokesman for Michelle – who plays Lady Mary Crawley in the period drama – said: ‘The family is very grateful for the support and kindness they have received but would kindly request that they are left to grieve in private.’
Devestated Michelle, also 34, is believed to have flown back from the US to be by her fiance’s side in his final hours.
John had been working in London, but had gone back to Ireland to spend time with his family after being diagnosed with cancer.
He is understood to have flown to Germany for treatment, but died in Cork’s Marymount Hospice this weekend.
The couple are said to have been dating since 2013 after being introduced by Downton co-star Allen Leech.
Talking about John in 2014, Michelle said: ‘I have a wonderful man in my life from Ireland. We were introduced by Allen Leech. That’s all you need to know.’
