Earth, Wind & Fire’s founder and vocalist Maurice White has died aged 74 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Younger brother and band member Verdine White confirmed the sad news on Thursday and told how Maurice had passed away in his sleep.
Describing his big brother as his ‘hero and best friend’ Verdine asked for privacy for the family ‘as we start what will be a very difficult and life changing transition in our lives.’
‘The light is he, shining on you and me,’ he tweeted.
Earth, Wind & Fire burst onto the music scene in 1975 with the number one single Shining Star and went on to have a string of hits through the late 70s and early 80s including Got To Get You Into My Life, September, Boogie Wonderland and After the Love has Gone.
