British fashion house Burberry hand-picked Brooklyn Beckham to shoot their latest ad campaign, despite the fact he’s only 16 and has never held down a photography job before. Being the son of soccer star David Beckham and former Spice Girl turned fashion designer Victoria Beckham, probably helped him land the gig.
And unsurprisingly as the teenager began sharing his plum role on Instagram, professional photographers took to social media to express their unhappiness, claiming ‘nepotism’ was at play.
Commentators claimed he would never have landed the job, if it wasn’t for his famous family and questioned the teen’s technical skill and lack of experience.
‘Ridiculous,’ photographer James Stephen Green declared on Facebook. ‘Given how many people he has assisting him on location. One of them will have set the camera up and said “Here you go Brooklyn, just point and press”.’
Rock N’ Roll photographer Ami Barwell, added: ‘He’s not even holding the camera right.’
Pet photographer Jak BetLoos posted on Twitter, saying: ‘It’s not what you know, but who you know and it’s totally unacceptable.’
Brooklyn, the oldest of David and Victoria’s four children, shot Burberry’s latest “This Is Brit” fragrance campaign in London on Saturday.
The Beckhams have enjoyed a long connection with Burberry, with Brooklyn’s younger brother Romeo starring in their 2015 festive ad campaign.
Brooklyn announced his involvement via Instagram earlier in the week, by posting a black and white photograph of himself holding a camera.
‘Excited to photograph the @Burberry campaign tomorrow,’ he wrote. ‘Watch it live on their Instagram & Snapchat #THISISBRIT’.
